Practice Management Guidelines
Evidence-based guidelines, when combined with safe, efficient institutional practices and physician experience create an effective educational tool for health care providers. Guidelines also serve as a foundation for optimal care, minimizing potentially dangerous variations among providers and serve as the "gold standard" for trauma and emergency surgical care at our institution. The manual content establishes benchmarks to assist in our performance improvement and patient safety program and follows standards of care appropriate for verification as a Level I trauma center with the American College of Surgeons.
The manual is meant to serve as an educational resource only. Local physician practice or expertise, facility capabilities, and sound clinical judgment should continue to guide patient care. Discussion or questions regarding specific guideline content should be directed to the Division of Acute Care Surgery's administrative offices.
