Urgent Care versus Emergency Room
Urgent Care is designed to complement your primary care physician or pediatrician by providing services when those doctors' offices are typically closed. Children's Hospital Urgent Care is designed for treatment of illnesses and injuries for which your child would normally receive care at his or her doctor's office. We offer this "after hours" service as a convenience to you. If your child's illness or injury requires it, we will direct you to the Emergency Room at Children's Hospital.

Some reasons to visit URGENT CARE:

  • Ear infections with pain and/or fever
  • Sore or strep throat
  • Cold/ flu-like symptoms
  • Mild asthma attacks
  • Non-severe bleeding
  • Minor cuts or burns
  • Hives/ rash
  • Bruises/ sprains
  • Lice, scabies or ringworm

More serious illness and injury that may require treatment at the EMERGENCY ROOM, include:

  • Serious broken bones, such as the leg or arm
  • Severe or unusual bleeding that will not stop
  • Sudden inability to see, move, or speak
  • Choking or trouble breathing
  • Possible poisoning
  • Unconsciousness
  • Fainting
  • Convulsions or prolonged, repeated seizures
  • Drug overdose
  • Major injuries
  • Severe pain
  • Suspected heart attack or stroke
