Your Health Care Team

Many staff members work as a team to care for you during your stay. They include:

Medical Staff
An attending physician, who is a senior member of the medical staff, is in charge of your care. Resident physicians and medical students working under the direction of the attending physician may assist in your care.

Nursing Staff
Registered nurses are responsible for your nursing care. These nurses will plan your care, administer your medicines and treatments and make you as comfortable as possible during your stay. Nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists also may assist in your care. These are advanced-practice nurses who have received specialized education and training. Licensed practical nurses, nursing students and nursing technicians work under the guidance of a registered nurse.

Case Management Team
Coping with a hospital stay or a difficult diagnosis is a stressful experience. The Case Management Department includes registered-nurse case managers and medical social workers who are skilled professionals who can help you and your family. They can communicate with you, your family, physicians, nurses and health insurance company representatives to identify your unique care needs and appropriate hospital services to address those needs. They can help you plan for any care you may need when you are discharged, such as home health care, community agency referrals or care in extended-care facilities. If you would like to speak to a member of the Case Management Department, call 882-2221.

Other Health Professionals
The hospital's health care team also includes other professionals, such as respiratory therapists, physical therapists, laboratory technicians, dietitians, pharmacists and psychologists.

Pastoral Care
During your stay at the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, you may need spiritual and personal resources to maintain your sense of faith, hope and well-being. Chaplains are available to minister to the spiritual and emotional needs of you and your family. If you would like to speak with a chaplain, please ask your nurse. If you would like to speak with a representative of your faith group, a chaplain can assist you with this.

Hospitality Services
University of Missouri Health Care is committed to providing you with a comfortable experience during your stay. If any part of your stay does not meet your expectations, please give us a chance to correct it. If you have a question or need service related to your room, such as housekeeping, linen, food service and nutrition, Art in Health Care patient activites, or if you need a personal care item, please contact Hospitality Services at 882-8220. Hospitality coordinators make regular rounds on floors throughout the hospital and visit patient rooms.

Guest Relations
If you have a concern or question about your hospital stay, patients or visitors may call Guest Relations at 882-1053 for assistance from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours and on weekends, please ask your nurse for help. If you have had an especially pleasant stay or you wish to share a concern in writing, please complete a "Tell us how we are doing. Your opinion counts." form, located in the east wing halls and near the elevators in the main lobby and garage entrances. You are also encouraged to enter comments about your stay into the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute's Patient Safety Net at www.muhealth.org.
