The Program
As a University of Missouri Health Care pharmacy practice resident, you will achieve proficiency and confidence as a practitioner in multiple patient care environments. University of Missouri Health Care stresses the importance of patient-focused practice in collaboration with all healthcare professionals. This program will address skills such as critical thinking, self-management and independent decision-making to help develop your professional maturity.

The program emphasizes clinical practice and includes rotations in internal medicine, critical care, infectious disease, psychiatry, and drug information. Elective rotations are available in other clinical and administrative areas. Residents will complete seminar presentations for CE credit and earn a teaching certificate through the UMKC resident teaching program.

Program Design:
Each required and elective rotation is four weeks, unless otherwise specified. As a resident, you will actively participate in medical rounds, providing the necessary pharmaceutical care recommendations to patients on your service. Each resident is responsible for drug therapy seminars and educational in-service presentations.

Required rotations:

  • Anticoagulation (2 Weeks)
  • Pharmacokinetics (2 Weeks)
  • Infectious Disease
  • Internal Medicine (8 weeks)
  • Surgical Intensive Care Medicine
  • Medical Intensive Care Medicine
  • Introduction to Investigational Drug Service (1 week)
  • Psychiatry
  • Management
  • Ambulatory Care

Elective rotations:

  • Pediatrics
  • Oncology
  • Cardiology
  • Family Medicine
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Repeat any of the required rotations
