Story Summary

Memorial Day Weekend has long been considered the unofficial start of summer, but in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have already been spending more time outdoors than ever before.

“Our only change of pace is to leave our homes and enjoy the outdoors,” said Emily Smith, MD, a dermatologist at University of Missouri Health Care. “People are definitely getting more sun exposure than I think we normally would for a given May.”

Smith says the extra time outdoors isn’t a problem, though, as long as people take the proper precautions, even on cool, cloudy days.
