Story Summary

The number of knee replacements performed every year is expected to climb to between 2 and 3 million over the next decade. Meanwhile, improvements in technology and clinical practices mean recovery times are decreasing.

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, more than 90 percent of people who have total knee-replacement surgery experience a dramatic reduction in knee pain. For fisherman Willis Richmond, that’s certainly been the case.
