Story Summary

A surge in food donations has been a welcome, though unexpected, response to COVID-19. Across mid-Missouri, residents are pitching in to send hot meals to local hospitals, and the donations have proven to be a blessing for both hospital staff and the restaurants that provide the food.

Deliveries from local restaurants arrive at MU Health Care almost daily, bringing boxes of barbeque, pizza and smoothies. All of the food is donated to feed staff working on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.

“They're here for long hours. They do a lot of work,” said Curtis Lilly, director of dining and nutrition services at MU Health Care. “Our top priority is ensuring everyone in his hospital eats, and that's very, very important.”
