Primary Care

Our family medicine, internal medicine and pediatric providers serve as the first line of care. Our clinics are located across Columbia and throughout Missouri, making it convenient for families to see their health care providers. Learn more about our primary care services

Our primary care providers offer a medical home for their patients. As our patients' first line of care, our providers get to know them, their families and their medical histories. If needed, our primary care providers have access to a network of specialists across MU Health Care.

Primary care at University of Missouri Health Care falls into four categories:

Family Medicine

Family medicine is the medical specialty that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for individuals and families. Our family medicine physicians are recognized as leaders in their field nationally. The MU School of Medicine's Department of Family and Community Medicine has been ranked in the top 10 in family medicine for 23 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report's Best Graduate Schools. As leaders in their field of medical specialty, our physicians realize that the cornerstone of family medicine is an ongoing, personal patient-physician relationship focused on integrated care. Our family medicine physicians integrate the biological, clinical and behavioral sciences to treat all ages, sexes, each organ and every disease. They emphasize preventive care and long-term relationships with patients.

Internal Medicine

Doctors of internal medicine focus on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. They are specially trained to solve diagnostic problems and treat severe chronic illnesses. They also bring to patients an understanding of wellness, women's health, substance abuse and mental health, as well as effective treatment of common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive organs.

General Pediatrics

Our pediatrics providers offer primary care for children from birth to age 18, including well-child checks, immunizations and treatment for routine illnesses. Our board-certified pediatricians have the highest level of knowledge and skills to provide your child with exceptional care in a kid-friendly environment. Our pediatricians are affiliated with MU Children's Hospital, central Missouri's only hospital dedicated exclusively to kids. If a child needs specialty care, our pediatricians have direct access to the comprehensive array of pediatric specialists at MU Children's Hospital. Our primary pediatrics clinic is conveniently located at the facility at South Providence Medical Park at 551 E. Southampton Drive.

Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med-Peds)

Internal medicine and pediatrics (med-peds) is a specialty in which physicians are trained in both internal medicine and pediatrics, and are experts in the comprehensive care of both adults and children. Med-peds physicians take care of patients across the entire spectrum of age groups - newborns and young children, adolescents and adults, in addition to offering a wide array of services including preventive care and screening, acute illness care and management of chronic diseases. Our med-peds providers are located at the Woodrail Internal Medicine and Pediatrics clinic.
