About

Miner Ross, MD, is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon who provides specialist care for skull base, brain and cerebrovascular disease, including benign and malignant tumors, pituitary diseases, hemorrhagic stroke, neurotrauma and traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Ross chose to become a physician because he saw the difference his family members in medicine made in the lives of their patients. He is inspired by the people he interacts with daily who face challenging diagnoses and difficult treatments with bravery and grace, and finds joy in helping them find answers. In his practice, he believes strongly in communication with patients and their families, providing the information they need to feel comfortable at every step in their surgical care and listening so he can align that care with their values and goals.

Dr. Ross and his wife, who is a neonatologist at MU Health Care, have a rescue Great Pyrenees mix named Leo who accompanies them on most of their outdoor adventures. Dr. Ross is an avid outdoorsman: He hikes, camps, swims, paddles, bikes and skis and putters around in his garden with most of his spare time. He also enjoys reading fiction and nonfiction, as well as international travel as often as his schedule allows.

Research Profile

Miner Ross, MD, MPH, is a neurosurgeon, educator and researcher at MU Health Care and the University of Missouri School of Medicine. His clinical practice focuses on surgical care for skull base, neurologic and cerebrovascular disorders, including tumor removal, hemorrhagic stroke and traumatic brain injury. Medical education is one of Dr. Ross’s passions. He considers it a privilege to serve as a resource for his patients, medical students and residents, and takes great pride in watching students develop new skills.

As a researcher, Dr. Ross is broadly interested in improving surgical quality outcomes and clinical decision-making. He has experience building databases and using large datasets and statistical methods to help find answers, including a published study to improve care efficiency for low-risk patients with mild traumatic brain injury — as well as other, smaller studies — using these methods. His research work collaborates with trauma surgeons, intensivists, neurologists, pharmacists and statisticians and extends to shared research projects with and mentorship of medical students and residents.
