About
Verghese George, MD, is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist and nuclear medicine physician with additional fellowship training in Abdominal Imaging and Body MRI. Prior to Radiology , he trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology in India and the United Kingdom. With more than 30 years in practice, he is an expert in using noninvasive imaging techniques such as MRI, CAT scan and ultrasound to diagnose, among other conditions, cancer, infertility, endometriosis, pelvic floor disorders and placenta accreta spectrum — a pregnancy complication wherein the placenta improperly attaches to the uterine wall during pregnancy and does not detach during birth.
Dr. George decided to become a doctor to use his knowledge and skills to help people heal, to ease their pain and to improve their quality of life. As a radiologist, he enjoys the role of medical detective, analyzing images to uncover answers and support accurate diagnoses. Dr. George treats each patient as an equal partner in decision-making and finds joy in serving as a catalyst for change in a person’s life.

Research Profile
Verghese George, MD, is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist and nuclear medicine physician who has clinical and research interests in using imaging modalities to diagnose and improve care for pregnancy-related disorders in women. He enjoys the work of being a medical detective and sees the future role of radiologists expanding towards qualitative data scientists and strategic consultants, using AI and radiogenomics to empower more precise, impactful and efficient medical care. He is excited to join MU Health Care and the School of Medicine and be part of an academic health system that is clearly dedicated to innovation, collaboration and a mission-driven approach to patient care.
As a researcher, Dr. George is interested in placental imaging and the diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum. He has been co-investigator on a study that developed a novel platform technology based on liposomal MRI imaging agents that provided a method for safe and accurate vascular and molecular imaging of the placenta. As a researcher, he frequently collaborates with obstetrics and gynecology colleagues.
