Diabetes Education Programs

The Cosmopolitan International Diabetes and Endocrinology Center offers classes to help manage diabetes. All of our programs are led by registered dietitians, registered nurses and health care professionals who have completed rigorous training to become certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCES).

Diabetes Self-Management Education Program

Accredited by the American Diabetes Association, this program consists of two class sessions designed to helps patients learn how to better manage their diabetes. Topics include:

  • Diabetes basics
  • Activity and exercise
  • Monitoring diabetes
  • High and low blood sugar
  • Diabetic medications
  • Sick day care
  • Meal planning and healthy eating
  • Diabetic supplies
  • Weight loss
  • Complications and foot care

We also offer a refresher class for those who participated in the program more than a year ago and are looking to improve their diabetes management skills. A doctor’s order is required for insurance coverage.

Meet With a Diabetic Educator

For specific diabetes management concerns, patients can meet one-on-one with a diabetic educator for one-hour sessions. Topics can include:

  • How to give an injection
  • Training a partner to give an injection
  • Smart insulin injection devices
  • Blood glucose meter training
  • Insulin pump options
  • Continuous blood glucose monitor training

Meet With a Registered Dietitian Diabetic Educator

For specialized dietary needs, patients can meet one-on-one with a dietitian for a one- to two-hour session. A referral from your provider is required.
