About

Stephen Hadford, MD is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who provides advanced surgical care for complex reconstructive and aesthetic conditions of the face, head, and neck in both children and adults. He completed residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery (ENT), followed by fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Hadford treats the full spectrum of reconstructive and aesthetic conditions and concerns of the face, head, and neck. He has particular expertise in complex head and neck reconstruction, including defects resulting from cancer, extensive facial soft tissue and bony loss or deformity, osteoradionecrosis, cranial defects, and total or subtotal nasal reconstruction. His practice routinely incorporates advanced microvascular free tissue transfer, a technique in which healthy tissue with its blood supply is transplanted from another part of the body to restore both form and function.

He also maintains a specialized focus in the treatment of facial paralysis and facial reanimation. Dr. Hadford offers the full spectrum of facial reanimation procedures, including state-of-the-art trivector gracilis free flap surgery, nerve grafting and transfers, and both static and dynamic facial slings. These procedures are designed to restore facial movement, improve symmetry, and enhance expression while preserving long-term function.

In addition, Dr. Hadford has extensive experience in reconstruction following skin cancer removal, including complex defects after Mohs surgery. His reconstructive expertise is complemented by aesthetic surgery of the face, head, and neck, with particular emphasis on both cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty. His rhinoplasty practice includes primary and revision procedures, correction of congenital nasal deformities—including those associated with cleft lip and palate—and management of structurally complex conditions such as saddle nose deformity.

Dr. Hadford’s path to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery is deeply personal. His eldest son was born with velocardiofacial syndrome, and witnessing his son’s care firsthand shaped his understanding of how profoundly the head and neck influence identity, communication, and connection. He considers it both a privilege and a responsibility to help restore function, appearance, and a patient’s sense of self. Known for his patient-centered approach, Dr. Hadford takes time to understand each individual’s concerns and goals, offering clear, honest guidance regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and expected outcomes so patients can make informed decisions aligned with their values.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Hadford and his wife are raising five wonderful children and a Great Dane. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, coaching and playing sports with his kids, hiking, camping, fishing, and passing along a love of the outdoors through hunting and exploration.

Research Profile

Stephen Hadford, MD, MS, is a fellowship-trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and head and neck surgeon who researches new surgical treatments and devices to improve outcomes for a full range of soft tissue and bony disorders of the head and neck, including cancer, osteoradionecrosis, trauma, burn, facial paralysis, microvascular reconstruction, Mohs reconstruction, and facial cosmetic surgery.

His research efforts include a prospective, randomized clinical trial studying the use of intraoperative electrical nerve stimulation to enhance outcomes in cross-face nerve grafting for facial reanimation, optimizing techniques for complex cranial reconstruction, and total eyelid reconstruction. Dr. Hadford’s work frequently collaborates with colleagues in head and neck oncology, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, dermatology, and engineering.
