About

Allyson Sanders, MD, is a board-certified family medicine physician who has additional fellowship training in sports medicine and offers pediatric sports medicine care such as injury prevention and stress fracture treatment. She treats young women who experience low energy, reduced bone density and menstrual disturbance because of physical activity — also called the “female athlete triad” — and offers expert care for runners and endurance athletes who have general health concerns as well as acute and overuse injuries.

Dr. Sanders chose to become a doctor to make a real impact in her community, and family medicine best fit her love of building relationships with her patients and working together to improve their health. Those relationships help her tailor care to each patient’s specific needs and life goals. As a runner, she wanted to learn more about musculoskeletal medicine to treat pain and injuries in patients from high school athletes to active older adults.

Dr. Sanders’ hobbies include running, hiking and strength training. She and her husband, Brad, met in medical school and moved to Columbia for their residency training. They have a big dog named Louie who is full of energy and keeps them busy.
