Cosmetic Face Procedures

Woman's face looking upward

When you look great, it feels amazing. Whether you want a subtle improvement or a dramatic new look, you can count on the cosmetic surgery experts at MU Health Care.

Here you'll find central Missouri's most talented plastic surgeons, as certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons (ABPS). ABPS is the only board of plastic surgeons, facial or otherwise, approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

Our surgeons are also educators and researchers at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, which means they're skilled in the latest, most advanced surgical techniques.

When you choose us, you benefit from the experience, advanced technology and range of services you can only find at an academic health system like ours.

Expert cosmetic surgery focused on you

Our cosmetic surgeons are not only experienced, but also understanding, respectful and focused on what’s important to you. During your consultation, we get to know you so we can understand what you want to achieve. Our goal is to help you love the way you look.

Cosmetic surgery is a personal choice, so we make sure you have all the information you need to decide what’s right for you. Your surgeon will explain your options and the benefits and risks associated with each procedure. We understand it’s a big decision, so we take the time to answer your questions and give you professional, honest guidance every step of the way.

Our highly skilled team specializes in a wide range of procedures to help you look and feel your best.

Less-invasive facial rejuvenation services

We offer a variety of noninvasive and minimally invasive facial cosmetic procedures. With minimal or no downtime, we can improve the look of your skin with injectable fillers, chemical peels and lasers and more.

Dermaplaning

During dermaplaning, an aesthetician uses a surgical blade to gently skim off the fine upper layers of dead skin and hair on your face. The process removes buildup of dead skin cells, dirt and oils and reveals radiant, healthier skin. The procedure is quick and easy — it only takes about 20 minutes — and you'll notice immediate results.

Injectables

Botox and filler injectables can change the appearance of your skin safely and with little downtime by eliminating wear lines around your mouth and eyes or by plumping facial features like your lips. Our aestheticians have a range of options and will help you choose the ones that best fit your goals and face.

Microdermabrasion

Similar to dermaplaning, microdermabrasion is an exfoliating procedure that gently removes the outermost layer of your skin. The process takes about 30 minutes and has no downtime — some people schedule it during their lunch break — and produces results right away.

Microneedling

Microneedling uses your body's natural process of healing skin damage by promoting the production of collagen and elastin through thousands of tiny, skin-deep holes created by a sterilized pen tool. The process can improve your skin's smoothness and firmness and is an excellent option for treating acne scarring, enlarged pores, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. We also offer platelet-rich plasma microneedling which can improve the results of a microneedling session.

Surgical

Nose surgery (rhinoplasty and septoplasty)

Nose surgery reshapes the bone and cartilage of your nose. Our surgeons can sculpt your nose by removing, adding to, or rearranging bone and cartilage, including correcting a deviated septum. We understand your nose is one of the most defining features of your face and even a slight change can have a dramatic effect.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and reshapes fat from your eyelids, as well as puffiness and bags under your eyes. It can give you a younger, more refreshed appearance. In addition to its cosmetic benefits, eyelid surgery can also alleviate discomfort and vision problems caused by drooping eyelids.

Brow and forehead lift

A brow lift repositions a sagging, flat brow into a more youthful, fresh and bright appearance, getting rid of the tired or sad look. Our surgeons may also remove part of the muscle between your brows to remove vertical frown lines. A brow lift can give you a smoother forehead and more youthful look.

Facial scar revision

It's not possible to remove a facial scar completely, but surgeons can improve the scar's appearance by disguising it or making it less prominent. Plastic surgeons use dermabrasion or laser resurfacing (for rough or elevated scars), and surgical removal to make scars less noticeable. Your procedure will depend on the type and location of your scar.

Cheek augmentation

Cosmetic surgeons can change the appearance of your cheeks and smile using implants or fat pad removal, which are more invasive than using injectables. Cheek implants can correct the appearance of sagging skin or loss of cheek volume that occurs naturally with age, helping you look younger. By removing naturally occurring fat pads under the skin, cheek reductions can result in a slimmer facial profile.

Facelift (rhytidectomy)

A facelift is performed by making an incision around the perimeter of your face. Our surgeons lift and reposition the skin then tighten the underlying muscle and connective tissue. In some instances, our surgeons remove fat and excess skin. A facelift can minimize wrinkles and sagging skin and make you look years younger.

Our surgeons also offer thread lifts, a less invasive procedure that uses medical sutures to tighten skin around the temples. This procedure does have less downtime than a facelift, but one drawback is the sutures will eventually dissolve or lose their hold.

Chin surgery

Chin surgery can give you a more prominent chin using synthetic implants or reduce the size of your chin by sculpting the underlying bone to a smaller size. Bony procedures can be done to change the appearance of the chin in any way. Our surgeons may also remove fat or excess tissue under your chin to create a more youthful look. Your chin helps give your face balance and defines your profile, so a well-defined chin can offer a dramatic improvement.

Ear surgery (otoplasty)

Ear surgery can reshape your ears, make them smaller or more symmetrical, or correct ears that angle out too far. Our surgeons make a small incision behind your ear, where it connects to your head, and removes cartilage and skin as necessary to reshape your ear. We can also use stitches to hold cartilage permanently in place. Your surgery will depend on the results you want to achieve.

Neck lift

A neck lift is performed by making an incision under your jawline. Our surgeons reposition and tighten loose skin under your chin and can also correct neck banding caused by the folds of excess skin or the visible appearance of neck muscles. This procedure can make you look younger by tightening the skin's natural quality of loosening with age.

Lip surgery

Lip surgery or lip lifts can change the appearance of your smile by repositioning your lips to cover your gums or teeth, reversing drooping at the corners of your mouth and eliminating smile lines. This procedure is often performed at the same time as a facelift.
