Story Summary

Randy Brunken, an interior finishing specialist in Moberly, Missouri, takes pride in meticulous work alongside his wife, Deb, and finds balance through walks with their yellow lab, Bella.

When persistent chest and rib pain made even breathing difficult in late 2023, he eventually sought care in 2024 at MU Health Care after realizing it was more serious than a simple rib issue.

Scans revealed three broken ribs despite no injury, prompting orthopaedic surgeon Douglas Haase to investigate why Randy’s bones were unusually weak.

Further blood work and a bone marrow biopsy led Randy and Deb to meet with cancer specialist Cherian Verghese for answers.
