Story Summary
Joni Lunceford has always found joy in the natural world, from tending her garden to hiking the trails and exploring the caves at Rock Bridge State Park with her family.
In 2026, routine breast cancer screenings and a visit to MU Health Care’s High-Risk Breast Clinic revealed two early-stage cancers—findings that came after Joni had no reason to suspect anything was wrong.
With compassionate, coordinated care, Joni underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction without needing chemotherapy or radiation, and she is now focused on recovery and moving forward.
Grateful for the early detection that changed her story, Joni has made it her mission to encourage the women around her to prioritize their health and learn about their own breast cancer risk.
