Story Summary
When 75-year-old Mel Bruemmer pitches a horseshoe, you’ll know it — the sharp clang of a ringer echoes his lifelong passion.
A Jefferson City native, Mel lands ringers on more than 70% of his throws, carrying on a family tradition. For him, horseshoes is more than a game — it’s therapy, camaraderie, and joy.
But when health issues began dulling his rhythm, the clang faded. Swelling and fatigue led to a diagnosis of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH).
With help from MU Health Care’s Dr. Daniel Au, Mel’s getting back to the game and the sound that’s always defined him.
