MU Health Care and the MU School of Medicine are facing significant financial shortfalls presented by a decrease in clinical revenues due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a reduction in state funding. Yesterday, MU Health Care leaders shared with employees that they have eliminated an additional 29 positions across MU Health Care’s hospitals and clinics. Eligible employees will receive transition assistance payments per university policy.

These actions are being taken to address head-on the financial challenges facing the academic health system and in order to ensure its long-term strength and sustainability.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all of us,” said Jonathan Curtright, MU Health Care CEO. “Hospitals and health systems across the country are facing similar financial challenges, and our organization is not alone in the need to make tough decisions to ensure long-term strength. However, knowing we are not alone in these challenges doesn’t make this decision or this news any easier to share.”
