Our Love Your Heart Cardiac Screening offers a simple, proactive way to check your heart health, even if you don’t have symptoms. It’s designed to catch early signs of heart disease before they become serious.

This one-time visit includes a calcium score CT scan and bloodwork to check your cholesterol and blood sugar. The calcium score test looks for hardened plaque in your heart arteries and estimates your risk for a heart event in the next 5 to 10 years.

Am I a Candidate for a Calcium Score Test?

You may be a good fit for a calcium score test if you:

Are living with diabetes, even if it’s well controlled
Have a family history of heart disease
Have high blood pressure or cholesterol, even if you take medication to manage it
Smoke or used to smoke

This screening is meant to catch early signs of heart disease and is not meant for urgent concerns. If you have chest pain, shortness of breath or any symptoms that come on suddenly or do not go away, seek medical care right away.

Our Approach to Heart Screening

Our Love Your Heart Cardiac Screening takes about 15 minutes and is designed to fit easily into your day. There’s no fasting required and no needles for the CT scan. We offer the screening in both Columbia and Jefferson City, so you can also choose the location that’s most convenient for you.

Each screening includes:

Calcium score CT scan: This one-minute scan checks for calcium buildup in the walls of your heart arteries, which can be an early sign of heart disease.
Laboratory analysis: A small blood sample gives us a complete a full lipid panel and A1C, which helps evaluate cholesterol levels and your risk for developing diabetes.

Before Your Visit

You don’t need a referral — you can just request an appointment. There’s no need to fast, and you can take your usual medications, unless your doctor says otherwise.

During Your Visit

When you arrive, you’ll check in at the front desk. We’ll collect the $120 payment at the beginning of your appointment during registration.

You’ll meet with a radiologist for a quick CT scan — no contrast, no pain and it’s over in about a minute. On the same day, you’ll get your blood drawn to test your cholesterol and A1C levels. Blood is drawn in the CT scanner at our Jefferson City location, or in our outpatient lab in Columbia.

After Your Visit: Understanding Your Results

You’ll receive your results through the patient portal or by letter. If follow-up is needed, a member of our team will call you and walk you through next steps. If your calcium score is high, one of our nurses will explain what it means and what to do next.

We can send your results to your primary care provider or help you find one if needed. If a cardiology visit is recommended, we’ll help get it scheduled. We offer in-person and telehealth options, including appointments during lunch hours.

Every score gives us useful insight. A higher score means a higher risk of a heart event over the next 5 to 10 years and helps guide your care. Based on your results, your doctor may recommend medication, lifestyle changes or additional testing.

Occasionally, the scan may pick up something in the lungs. If that happens, we’ll arrange the follow-up care you need.
