Earlier today, the Columbia Fire Department extinguished a fire in an equipment room on the roof of Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

We appreciate the work of the fire crews who quickly resolved the incident and maintained our patients’, employees’ and visitors’ safety. During the incident, patients on the upper floors were relocated to lower levels of the hospital. We are thankful to our employees who safely moved these patients while continuing to provide high-quality care.

We have begun to assess the damage caused by the incident and will be working to clean and prepare the affected areas on the fourth and fifth floors for patients. While cleanup continues, we will be moving some patients to other areas of Women’s and Children’s Hospital and to other MU Health Care hospitals, including the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute and University Hospital.

We also are thankful to other local hospitals, including Capital Region Medical Center, Boone Hospital Center and St. Mary’s Hospital – Jefferson City who offered their assistance.
