Specific Needs at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center

Wig ProgramThe Ellis Fischel wig program promotes a positive image for cancer patients experiencing hair loss from treatment. Hair loss, a very visible sign of the battle with cancer, can make patients feel self-conscious or embarrassed about their appearance. Quality wigs are expensive, costing about $100 each. Many forms of insurance do not cover the costs of wigs and patients may not be able to afford them. Anxiety over hair loss and the accompanying financial burden should not detract from the strength patients need to recover. This program offers patients in need their choice of a wig at no cost.

Mammography FundEllis Fischel Cancer Center has worked diligently to provide breast cancer screenings to the women of mid-Missouri, regardless of their ability to pay. The Cancer Screening Mammography Fund has been in place since 2008 and provides a breast cancer screening to those who are uninsured and are not eligible for any charitable, state or federal programs. Breast cancer screenings include a clinical breast exam, screening mammogram and breast cancer education. Women can receive these services at our program housed at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, or on our Mobile Mammography Van which travels to more than 25 counties and 60 locations throughout mid-Missouri.

Wyatt Guest House: Guest House staff members provide patients and family members a warm, friendly environment that allows them to concentrate on healing during their cancer treatment. Patients have a place to rest, share a meal and talk with others who are battling cancer. The house has 12 rooms available for guest use. Each room is equipped with two double beds, a private bath, telephone, TV, linens and other hotel-like amenities. Common areas include the kitchen, TV rooms, library, living room and laundry facilities. Wyatt Guest House also offers several activities for patients and their families to take part in such as bingo, movie nights and Look Good Feel Better classes.

Patient Assistance Fund: Unexpected medical costs can be expensive. To help patients, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center offers some financial assistance to patients with identified needs. If you are a patient without health insurance and you do not have the ability to afford medical care, the patient assistance fund may be able to help. This funding comes entirely from charitable contributions and helps struggling patients afford medical care, medicine, supplements, and more.
