How Do I Get Tested for COVID-19?

Here is what you need to know about getting tested for COVID-19.

Our drive-thru sites will test college students. Each campus also has a process and/or advice for testing. Click links for details: Mizzou, Columbia College, Stephens College.

Symptoms

COVID-19 presents with symptoms similar to a respiratory illness such as the flu. Symptoms might include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle pain or body aches
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Loss of taste or smell

If you're experiencing mild symptoms of COVID-19 such as those on the list above, you can call our free assessment line at 573-884-0948 to see if you should be tested. If you have severe symptoms, including difficulty breathing, go to the Emergency Department or call 911.

Getting tested

Before you head to the drive-thru, you’ll need to take one of the following steps to be assessed for symptoms. A referral is required. We offer several options so you can be assessed and tested in the same day.

If you need a test to meet travel requirements, we can provide that test at our drive-thru testing site. Please start by calling our free assessment line.

  • Call our free assessment line at 573-884-0948.
    • Available 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday
  • Schedule a virtual assessment through Mizzou Quick Care.
    • Each video visit will cost up to $59 depending on your insurance coverage.
  • Complete a video visit at muhealthvideovisits.org.
    • Each video visit will cost up to $59 depending on your insurance coverage.
  • Contact your primary care provider.

After you are assessed by a health care provider, you can come to MU Health Care's drive-thru testing site. See location details.

Drive-thru testing is available:

  • 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday
  • The drive-thru site is closed Sunday.

A referral is required.

How will I be notified of results?

The test results notification process differs based on your results. Patients will be notified of their test result as soon as it is processed, typically within 48 hours, via a message in the HealthConnect portal. If you don't have a HealthConnect account, you can sign up here.

How much does testing cost?

MU Health Care uses several diagnostic lab tests to detect COVID-19 infection and antibodies. Learn more about our Coronavirus testing prices.

If you have insurance, your insurance company will be billed. At this time, there is no co-pay or co-insurance. If your insurance denies the claim, you will receive a bill. If you do not have insurance, there is no charge.

Where is the drive-thru testing site?
