Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery
Often, gynecologic surgery can help cure certain conditions like endometriosis or fibroids. If you need surgery, your gynecologist may offer you minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, or (MIGS). Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery allows your gynecologist to make fewer and smaller incisions and avoid healthy tissue and organs. This lowers your risk for side effects after surgery, such as incontinence or sexual dysfunction.
Other benefits of minimally invasive surgery include:
- Quicker recovery time
- Shorter hospital stays
- Less pain
Why Choose MU Health Care for OB/GYN Care
Personalized Birth Planning
During your pregnancy, your OB/GYN will help you put together your birth plan. They’ll help you navigate pain management options (including an epidural), natural birth and a C-section (including our gentle C-section approach). And our state-of-the-art Birthing Centers located in Columbia and Jefferson City are designed to accommodate your labor and delivery preferences and needs.
Minimally Invasive Surgery Expertise
Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) may be an option if you need a hysterectomy, myomectomy or other gynecologic surgery. This approach offers you less pain, faster recovery and fewer side effects than open surgery. And MU Health Care is home to the only MIGS-certified surgeons in mid-Missouri.
Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology
If your child is facing abnormal periods, recurring infections or other reproductive health concerns, our OB/GYNs can help. We offer highly specialized care in a comfortable, teen-friendly setting to help them feel at ease.
Expert Care for High-Risk Pregnancy
Our team is equipped to handle complex and high-risk pregnancies. To ensure you and your baby get the specialized care you need, your OB/GYN will collaborate with our maternal fetal medicine team. These providers are OB/GYNs who have additional training focused on conditions that affect you and your unborn baby during pregnancy. They also work closely with our fetal care team, which specialize in treating unborn babies facing health complications.
